A triple desert adventure in the Agafay: Your 6-hour escape begins with a pickup from your hotel, riad or Airbnb in Marrakech. After roughly 40 minutes on the road, you reach the Agafay Desert -- a vast mineral landscape framed by the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains.
At the base, your guide greets you with a traditional mint tea welcome ceremony before handing out safety gear -- helmets and goggles -- and walking you through the controls of the two-seater buggy. The automatic transmission makes it easy for first-timers and experienced drivers alike.
You then set off on a thrilling one-hour buggy ride through the desert trails: rocky plains, ochre hills, Berber villages and dry riverbeds pass beneath your wheels. Several photo stops let you capture stunning shots with the Atlas Mountains as a backdrop.
Back at the base, you swap the engine for the gentle, rhythmic stride of a camel. For one hour you cross the same landscapes at an ancient pace, cradled by the silence of the desert. This is the perfect moment to watch the sunset set the Agafay ridges ablaze with colour.
The evening continues at La Bohème camp, nestled in the heart of the desert. Beneath flickering lanterns and a canopy of stars, you savour a full Moroccan dinner: fresh salads, warm bread, your choice of tagine or couscous, followed by seasonal pastries. A live Berber music performance and a mesmerising fire show accompany your meal, creating a truly magical atmosphere.
The transfer back to your accommodation rounds off an exceptional evening filled with adrenaline, authenticity and flavour.
We've done a lot of activities in Marrakech but this one took the top spot. The buggy ride was thrilling, the camel trek was so peaceful at sunset, and La Boheme's atmosphere was magical. The food was outstanding and the fire show left our jaws on the floor. Absolute must-do.
